Foremost is courtesy to, and consideration for, the landowners. Do not ride on crops, hay fields, nor deep wet areas; spread out in fields to avoid making "cow paths" which help to cause erosion; go quietly through livestock. DO NOT hack over private land on non-hunting days unless you have the express permission of the landowner.

Always be watchful for a hound that may come through the riding field. Say, "Hound, please," and let him have room to come forward. Please do not talk while hounds are working; it is most distracting and even whispers carry for long distances. Don't ride close to the horse in front of you, and in taking fences give "falling room." If your horse kicks, tie a red ribbon on its tail. If on a narrow trail and the field is reversed, keep moving forward.

Inspect your tack for wear and tear. Keep it clean. Keep your horse clean with pulled mane, and tail that does not touch the ground. Arrive at hunt meet at least 20 minutes prior to start.

The beginning of the informal hunting Season is September. Polo shirts in a solid conservative color are appropriate. Beginning October 1st, you will be expected to wear a ratcatcher or light-weight tailored riding coat. During the formal season (beginning on Thanksgiving Day), ratcatcher is appropriate on Wednesdays and formal is worn for the Opening Day and Saturdays. Please do not chew gum or wear perfume or aftershave in the hunt field. Hair nets required. Please, no use of cell phones.

Members with colors ride at the front of either field.

Riding members should have dues paid and paperwork fully completed (including waivers, licenses and coggins) prior to their first hunt.

Social members and guests should request permission to hunt with Tryon Hounds from the Honorary Hunt Secretary prior to the day of hunting, and then have all paperwork filled out and cap fees paid and in the possession of the the Honorary Hunt Secretary or the Field Secretary prior to mounting.
