A hunt’s “country” consists of areas where landowners have given permission for riders and hounds to cross their properties, and for the Hunt to maintain trails and jumps. This country is registered with the Masters of Foxhounds Association and may not be used by any other hunt or by trail riders, except by invitation. It is the Hunt’s obligation to keep riders off lawns, crops and gardens.
There are hunt meets in several different sections of Polk County, North Carolina, as well as in upper Spartanburg County, South Carolina. New country is constantly being opened up as land formerly hunted becomes unsuitable because of development of highways. In 1996 Tryon Hounds chartered property in Brattonsville, South Carolina. This new country, located in York and Chester Counties is approximately 80 miles from Tryon.
